Spartan Motors is recalling 2010-2014 MM motorhome chassis due to a front suspension design that may cause sway bar end links to break, increasing crash risk.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (suspension component failure) that explicitly increases the risk of a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Spartan Motors Chassis, Inc. is recalling certain 2010-2014 model year MM motorhome chassis manufactured between December 11, 2009, and January 30, 2013. The recall affects vehicles equipped with a sway bar and model 1253 front suspension. A total of 452 vehicles are affected by this safety recall.

The front suspension design on these vehicles has increased rebound travel, which may result in a binding condition of the sway bar end link. This condition could lead to the breaking of the sway bar end links. Broken sway bar end links may result in poor vehicle handling or sway, which increases the risk of a crash.

Spartan Chassis will notify owners, and dealers will replace the old end links with new end links and an improved mounting, free of charge. The recall began on March 4, 2014. Customers may contact Spartan Chassis at 1-517-543-6400 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
