What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (tire deformation) that could cause sudden failure and increase the risk of a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Continental Tire the Americas, LLC (CTA) is recalling approximately 5,993 ProContact GX SSR MOE tires, size 225/45R18 95H XL. These tires were manufactured between June 22, 2014, and July 28, 2014, and are used for front axle fitment on 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class vehicles.
The affected tires may have been deformed during the curing process, which could cause the tire tread to appear distorted when inflated. A tire that was deformed during this process may suddenly fail during use, increasing the risk of a crash.
CTA has notified owners, and tire dealers or Mercedes-Benz dealers will replace the tires free of charge. The recall began on October 30, 2014. Owners may contact CTA customer service at 1-888-799-2168 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
