Honda is recalling 2007-2008 Odyssey vehicles because the Vehicle Safety Assist System may apply brakes unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a rear-end crash.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (unexpected braking) that increases the risk of a crash, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for significant injury/property-damage reports or structural defects.
Plain-English summary
American Honda Motor Company is recalling certain model year 2007-2008 Honda Odyssey vehicles manufactured between August 8, 2006, and September 8, 2008. The recall involves approximately 344,187 vehicles.
The recall is due to a combination of system components and software that may cause the Vehicle Safety Assist System (VSA) to apply the brakes unexpectedly. This can result in the vehicle braking hard without illuminating the brake lights, which increases the risk of a crash from behind.
Parts to remedy these vehicles were not available until the spring of 2014. Honda sent an interim letter in December 2013 notifying owners of the issue and providing instructions on how to prevent unintended braking. A second notification was sent when parts became available. Owners may contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009 or visit www.recalls.honda.com for more information.
