Plain-English summary
Chrysler Group LLC is recalling 346,900 Jeep Liberty vehicles manufactured between July 3, 2003, and June 29, 2007. This recall covers model years 2004 through 2007 and was expanded in June 2012 to include additional model years. The vehicles were originally sold or are currently registered in specific states in the Northeast, Midwest, and District of Columbia, including Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia.
The recall addresses a defect where the rear lower control arms may experience excessive corrosion due to the application of road salts during winter weather conditions. This corrosion can lead to a fracture of the rear lower control arm. A fracture of this component may result in a loss of vehicle control and may lead to a vehicle crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the rear lower control arms on all affected vehicles free of charge. The safety recall began on March 26, 2012. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
