What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The source text explicitly states that a crash resulting from the defect could result in injury or death, which aligns with the rubric criterion for 'significant injury/property-damage reports' or structural/electrical defects posing severe risk.
Plain-English summary
Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. is recalling certain model year 2011 Ninja ZX-10R and ZX-10R ABS motorcycles (models ZX1000JBF, ZX1000KBF, ZX1000JBFL, and ZX1000KBFL). The recall involves approximately 2,480 vehicles.
A portion of the wiring harness may become pinched between the rear subframe and the rear fender, or between the rear subframe and the bolt holding the seat cover. This pinching can damage the harness and wiring, resulting in a short circuit between wires and the frame or within the wires. This electrical fault could cause the engine to stop suddenly while the motorcycle is being ridden.
If the motorcycle stalls while in motion, there is a risk of a crash resulting in injury or death. Dealers will repair the motorcycle as necessary and reroute the main harness free of charge. The safety recall began on July 25, 2011. Owners may contact Kawasaki Consumer Services at 1-866-802-9381 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
