Plain-English summary
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year 2008 through 2010 ST1300 and ST1300A motorcycles, as well as model year 2009 ST1300PA police motorcycles. The affected vehicles were manufactured between November 2007 and May 2010 for the ST1300/ST1300A models, and between November 2008 and December 2009 for the ST1300PA model. A total of 2,232 vehicles are affected by this recall.
The recall addresses a defect where the rear brake reservoir hose may become damaged and leak brake fluid if the rear suspension is repeatedly bottomed out (fully compressed). This leakage can result in a loss of rear brake performance or function, which increases the risk of a crash.
The safety recall began on July 30, 2011. Dealers will replace the rear brake reservoir hose free of charge. Owners may contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
