Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a vehicle electrical defect that can lead to a fire, which meets the rubric criteria for 'significant injury/property-damage reports' or structural/functional defects posing severe risk.
Plain-English summary
Micro Bird, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2006-2010 Girardin G5 and 2009-2011 Micro Bird G5 non-school buses built on Ford cutaway chassis. The vehicles were manufactured between February 2006 and May 30, 2011. The recall affects 45 vehicles.
The defect involves the OEM cutaway wiring harness, which passes just rearward of the driver seat between the B pillar and the raised floor. The raised floor traps the wire harness, causing the wires to rub against the metal floor molding. This friction damages the wire insulation.
A wire with damaged insulation may cause an electrical short, which can lead to a fire. Micro Bird will notify owners, and dealers will repair the buses free of charge. The safety recall began on July 4, 2011. Owners may contact Micro Bird at 1-819-477-2012 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
