The affected models include the Mountain Aire, Torrey Pine, Dutch Star, Kountry Star, Essex, Dutch Aire, Canyon Star, Cypress, All Star, X-Aire, Ventana, Kountry Aire, Grand Star, Bay Star, Northern Star, and Scottsdale, manufactured between 2003 and 2011. The recall covers 5,486 units.

The defect involves the refrigerators' safety features, specifically a sensing algorithm or thermal switch designed to shut off power when high temperatures are detected. These devices are intended to prevent potential fires caused by possible hydrogen gas leaks. However, the response times of these safety devices are not sufficient to stop power in time to prevent a fire.

Newmar is working with Norcold to identify and notify affected owners. Owners will be instructed to contact Norcold dealers to receive the remedy free of charge.
