Blue Bird Body Company is recalling 143 model year 2011 All American D3 model school buses manufactured between April 23, 2010, and September 11, 2010. The recall involves buses built with 20-gauge outside side panels where the required joint adhesive may not have been used during production. As a result, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 221 regarding school bus body joint strength.
In the event of a crash, the side panel joints may not endure as intended, causing the panels to loosen or separate. This defect increases the risk of injury to passengers. The safety recall began on January 26, 2011.
