The affected models include the Canyon Trail, Tourmaster Elite, Scenic Cruiser, Independence, Sun Voyager, Mako, Yellowstone, Aztec, Friendship, Atrium, Tourmaster, and Prairie Schooner, spanning model years from 1997 to 2010.
The defect involves the safety mechanisms designed to shut off power to the refrigerator when high temperatures are detected, which may indicate a hydrogen gas leak. The response times of the sensing algorithm and thermal switch are not sufficient to stop power quickly enough to prevent a potential fire.
Owners should contact Norcold dealers to receive the remedy free of charge. Gulf Stream is working with Norcold to identify and notify affected owners. The recall began on March 23, 2011. Owners may contact Norcold at 1-800-767-9101 or Gulf Stream at 1-574-773-7761 for additional information.
