Showtime Conversions is recalling specific horse and car trailers because the refrigerators' high-temperature safety switches may not shut off power quickly enough to prevent a fire.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall addresses a risk-of-harm product (fire hazard) where no specific injuries or fatalities have been reported in the source text, fitting the criteria for a High severity score.

Plain-English summary

Showtime Conversions is recalling certain model year 2001, 2002, and 2004 Showhauler recreational vehicles; 1999 and 2000 Classic car trailers; 2006 Wildside recreational vehicles; and 2007 Showtime horse trailers. These vehicles are equipped with 1200-series Norcold refrigerators that contain a sensing algorithm or thermal switch designed to shut off power when high temperatures are detected.

The defect involves the response time of these safety devices. The sensing algorithm or thermal switch may not shut off power to the refrigerator in sufficient time to prevent a fire, particularly in the event of a possible hydrogen gas leak.

Showtime is working with Norcold to identify and notify affected owners. Owners will be instructed to contact Norcold dealers to receive the remedy free of charge. The safety recall began on December 6, 2010. Owners may contact Norcold at 1-800-767-9101 or Showtime Conversions at 1-574-534-8340.
