What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (power cable insulation wear) that could result in a vehicle fire and injury to occupants, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Daimler Trucks North America is recalling certain model year 2004 through 2010 Thomas Built Buses Minotour non-school buses built on Ford chassis. These vehicles were manufactured between May 6, 2004, and February 2, 2010. The recall addresses a defect in the main body power cables, which were routed near an unprotected sharp edge on the passenger's side inner-fender.

Under certain conditions, a power cable may contact the sharp edge. If this contact goes undetected, it could wear through the cable's insulation, potentially resulting in a short circuit. A short-circuited power cable could lead to a vehicle fire and injury to vehicle occupants.

Daimler Trucks will inspect and reroute and/or replace the power cables as needed. This service will be performed free of charge. The safety recall was expected to begin on or before November 15, 2010. Owners may contact Daimler Trucks toll-free at 1-800-547-0712 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
