Ford is recalling 33,728 model year 2010 Transit Connect vehicles because the headliner retention pushpin may not meet federal safety standards, increasing injury risk in a crash.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (body/roof and pillars) that fails to meet federal safety standards for occupant protection, increasing the risk of injury in a crash, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for structural defects.
Plain-English summary
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain model year 2010 Transit Connect vehicles manufactured between December 5, 2008, and May 31, 2010. The recall involves 33,728 vehicles where the headliner retention pushpin located above the B-pillar trim on both the left and right sides may fail to meet the minimum requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 201, "Occupant Protection in Interior Impact."
During vehicle testing, the vehicles exceeded the head injury criteria requirements set by the standard. In the event of a vehicle crash, an occupant could be at an increased risk of injury due to this defect.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will repair the vehicles free of charge. The safety recall began on July 19, 2010. Owners may contact Ford Motor Company at 1-866-436-7332 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
