Plain-English summary
Daimler Trucks North America is recalling 175 model year 2002-2006 Unimog U500NA Type 405.210 and 405.230 trucks. The recall addresses a defect in the front suspension where a weld connecting the transverse control arm eyes to the control arm tube may not meet specifications.
This defect could allow the control arm eye to separate from the tube without warning under severe driving conditions. Such separation may cause a loss of vehicle control, potentially resulting in a crash and personal injury.
Dealers will inspect the front and rear suspension transverse control arms and replace any improperly welded components free of charge. The safety recall began on June 2, 2010. Owners may contact Daimler Trucks at 1-800-547-0712 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
