B&W Custom Truck Beds, Inc. has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) about a defect in certain Extenda-Goose trailer hitch couplers. The affected parts, identified by part number TEXA4200, were manufactured between June 1, 2008, and January 28, 2010, and sold as aftermarket equipment for gooseneck trailers.

The defect involves a weld between the top two tube members of the coupler that may fracture. If this fracture occurs, the coupler may fail, which could cause a trailer under tow to separate from the tow vehicle, possibly resulting in a crash.

B&W will notify owners of record and replace the defective hitches free of charge. The safety recall began on March 3, 2010. Owners may contact B&W toll-free by calling 1-800-248-6564.
