In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Tecumseh Products Co. of Grafton, Wis., is voluntarily recalling approximately 118,000 engines equipped with a fuel shut-off valve. These engines are installed on various brands of outdoor power equipment, including snow blowers, augers, post hole diggers, log splitters, shredders, irrigators, and ventilating fans.

The recall is due to a defect where fuel can leak from a small hole in the engine's fuel line. This leak presents fire and explosion hazards to consumers. Tecumseh Products has received two reports of fuel lines leaking, but no injuries have been reported. The affected engines have D.O.M. numbers ranging from 9121 through 9233, which are located on the engine's label.

The affected equipment was sold at mass merchandise stores nationwide and through authorized factory dealerships from June 1999 to September 1999 for approximately $800 to $2,000. Consumers should stop using the equipment immediately and call Tecumseh toll-free at (888) 271-4048 between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. CDT, Monday through Saturday, to arrange for a free repair.
