Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (children's sleepwear failing flammability standards) where injury has not yet been reported, which aligns with the High severity criteria.
Plain-English summary
Bentley Lingerie Inc. is recalling more than 30,000 girls' "Esleep Juniors" robes in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The recalled robes fail to meet federal flammability standards for children's sleepwear, which require garments to be flame-resistant and for flames to self-extinguish if ignition occurs. This failure presents a risk of serious burn injuries to children.
The robes are made of polyester, available in blue or green, and were sold in sizes four through 14. They feature chest patches showing either bear cubs or a sleeping puppy and have labels on the collar reading "Esleep Juniors" and "Made in Bangladesh." Specific GPU numbers located on the collar tag include 9816, 9817, 9818, 9885, 9886, 9890, and 9891. These robes were sold at J.C. Penney stores nationwide from July 1998 through April 1999 for approximately $25.
CPSC and Bentley Lingerie are not aware of any injuries involving these robes, and the recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injury. Consumers should stop using these recalled robes immediately and return them to the store where purchased for a refund. For additional information, consumers can contact Bentley Lingerie at (888) 330-3803 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EDT, Monday through Friday.
