Kmart Recalls Tru-Burn Portable LP Gas Grills Due to Fire Hazard

The recall was initiated because the burner manifold connection can separate during use. This separation results in a flame outside the grill, which could burn consumers and ignite nearby combustibles.

CPSC is aware of one reported fire outside of a consumer's grill due to the manifold connection separating during use. No injuries were reported in connection with this incident. The affected grills have a black porcelain paint finish with two chrome-plated wire, steel legs. When assembled, the grill is about 18 inches long and 12 inches high. The packaging box is labeled with UPC Code 024838170001 and Kmart Code 0-118731-116, and includes the writing "TRU-BURN."

Kmart sold these portable grills nationwide through its stores from February 1996 through August 1998 for about $22. Consumers should immediately stop using these grills and return them to a Kmart store for a full refund. For more information, consumers can call Kmart toll-free at 1-800-63KMART. The "BBQ-PRO" model portable gas grills currently being sold by Kmart are not included in this recall.
