The recalled units are improperly wired, which presents fire, shock, and electrocution hazards to consumers. Disney has received one report of a waffle iron catching fire at the wall socket, though no injuries or property damage were reported.

The waffle irons were manufactured by Vitantonio Products, a former licensee of Disney Consumer Products that is no longer in business. The wiring was installed improperly during the manufacturing process. The affected products are chrome and black with a "clam-shell" design featuring a Mickey Mouse face on the cooking surfaces. Only waffle irons with three-prong plugs bearing model number 1950 and serial numbers in the ranges 17001000 to 17002661 or 46006022 to 46006524 are included in this recall. These units were sold at Walt Disney World Resorts and specialty kitchen and department stores nationwide from October 1996 through January 1997 for about $60.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled waffle irons. To participate in the recall, consumers should contact Disney at (800) 362-4695 for instructions on returning the product to receive a $70 gift voucher good for use in The Disney Catalog. Other styles of Mickey waffle irons made by Vitantonio for Disney are not involved in this recall.
