Charles Komar & Sons Inc. is recalling approximately 6,800 fleece robes and lounge sets for women in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The affected garments include Earth Angels and Maidenform brand robes and lounge sets made in Hong Kong from an 80% cotton and 20% polyester blend. The fabric, which has a raised fiber surface often called sherpa, fails to meet federal mandatory standards for fabric flammability. Non-compliant fabrics typically burn faster than newspaper, presenting a serious risk of burn injuries in violation of the federal Flammable Fabrics Act.

The recalled items were sold from September 1996 through April 1997 for approximately $40 to $50. Retailers included Dillard's stores nationwide (excluding California), Maidenform Factory Outlets stores nationwide, and a few small clothing and hosiery stores in Louisiana and South Carolina. The robes come in sizes small, medium, and large in green, red, blue, burgundy, ivory, and purple. Specific styles include Earth Angels button front (82308), wrap front (88308), and hooded zip front (84308) robes, as well as Maidenform button front (882308) robes. Lounge sets include Earth Angels style 87308 and Maidenform style 887308. Brand names and style numbers are located on sewn-in labels at the neck of the garments.

CPSC and Charles Komar & Sons Inc. are not aware of any injuries involving these garments. The recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injuries. Consumers should immediately stop wearing these garments and return them to the store where purchased for a full refund.
