The rectangular, off-white plastic detectors measure approximately 4.75 inches long, 2.5 inches wide, and 1.75 inches deep, featuring the words "Gas Sentry" on the front. They were sold by coal and wood stove dealers in the northeastern United States from February 1988 to May 1996 for approximately $80. The detectors were packaged in a white box labeled "Home Gas Sentry...120 Volts AC...Model Z-1604-KM."

CPSC is unilaterally issuing this warning because Stanley Solar & Stove is unable to participate in a recall and has not warned the public about the risks. Consumers are urged to stop using these detectors immediately and replace them with new units that meet Underwriters Laboratories Standard 2034, effective October 1, 1995.
