Consumers who purchased a battery-powered smoke detector on or after July 10, 1992, should check the label on the back of the unit for the affected models and date codes. If the unit is affected, consumers should call (800) 638-2772 for information on obtaining a replacement, except for units made by Jameson Home Products, which should be discarded or destroyed as no remedy is available from that firm.
