The company determined that the red paint used on the eyes, tongue, and cheeks of these toys may contain lead in excess of 0.06 percent, which does not comply with Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) regulations for children's articles.

The affected toys feature red and white pull cords and were sold nationwide in variety and chain stores since 1986. They are available in two assortments: Assortment #590 (including Slinky Train, Slinky Dalmation, and Slinky Caterpillar) and Assortment #490 (including Slinky Seal, Slinky Frog, Slinky Worm, and Slinky Kitten). While thousands of units were sold, neither the company nor the CPSC has received any injury reports or consumer complaints.

Consumers should remove these toys from their children and return them to the store where purchased for an exchange or refund. Alternatively, consumers may return the toys to James Industries, Inc. at Beaver Street Extension, P.O. Box 407, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.
