Whirlpool Undercounter Dishwashers Recalled for Fire Risk in Selector Switch

This notice also corrects model numbers previously reported in an August 2, 1988, CPSC news release, clarifying that DU900XR-0 and DU900XR-1 were incorrect and should be DU9000XR-0 and DU9000XR-1.
The pushbutton selector switch on these dishwashers could catch fire under specific conditions. There have been twelve fire incidents, three of which spread outside the dishwasher, but no injuries have been reported. Approximately 75,000 dishwashers of these models were sold nationwide since March 1986.
Owners should immediately stop using the dishwasher and turn the power off or leave the door unlatched until service is performed. To arrange for free replacement of the selector switch, owners should call Whirlpool's toll-free number at 1-800-541-5746. The model and serial numbers can be found on a plate located along the right front edge of the tub after the door is opened.
