The recall is prompted by a reported incident in which a young infant suffered a fractured skull after the floorboard dislodged while the crib was in the upper "changing table" position. The infant fell and struck her head on the floor when a grandmother attempted to lower the drop side. One other incident was reported but did not result in injury. The defect involves a floorboard with only one clip attached to the underside, which fails to prevent the drop side from being lowered when the board is in the elevated position.
Consumers should stop using the affected portable cribs immediately. To receive a free replacement floorboard, owners should call North States Industries collect at 612-522-6505. The redesigned floorboard features six metal clips on the underside and a cautionary label advising against lowering the drop side when the board is in the changing table position. Only floorboards with a single clip on the underside are affected.
