Dover Corporation/OPW Division is voluntarily recalling its Model 34 Hose End Swivel and renewing the recall of Model 33-C Swivels in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). These swivels are used at self-service and full-service gas stations as connectors from the pump hose to the nozzle. The products were manufactured and distributed nationwide between May 1983 and May 1986.

The recall is due to reports of 12 incidents where the Model 34 Swivel failed by separating at the swivel elbow, and an equal number of failures for the Model 33-C. One recent incident involving a Model 33-C resulted in severe burns to a service station pump user who was sprayed with gasoline that later ignited. Approximately 31,000 Model 33-C units and 53,000 Model 34 units may still be in service.

Distributors and service station owners are advised not to sell or use these swivels. Replacement swivels will be provided, and a cash payment is offered for the return of units already installed on pumps. Those needing more information can call the OPW Division toll-free at 1-800-422-2525.
