Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk of serious injury or death from fire and burn hazards, with reported incidents of ignition and property damage, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Friedrich Air Conditioning Co. is recalling approximately 2,000 Kühl Q and Kühl S window air conditioners. The recall involves specific models, including KCVQ08B10A, KHVQ10B11A, KCVS08B10A, KCVS12B10A, KCVS12B30A, and KCVS16B30A. These units feature a gray front and a black air discharge grille, with the Friedrich logo located in the lower left corner.

The recall is necessary because the control board inside the motor of the affected air conditioners can fail, posing a risk of serious injury or death from fire and burn hazards. The firm has received two reports indicating that the air conditioner’s motor ignited, with one incident causing smoke and fire damage to a residence. No injuries have been reported.

The recalled units were sold at PC Richard & Son, Grainger, and Johnson Supply stores, as well as other appliance distributors and retailers nationwide, from January 2026 through August 2026 for between $1,300 and $2,000. Consumers should stop using the recalled air conditioners immediately and visit www.friedrich.com/product-recall to determine if their unit is covered. If the unit is included in the recall, Friedrich will provide instructions for obtaining a refund or a free replacement unit.
