Youth jackets recalled over hood drawstring that poses strangulation hazard

About 8,850 Grundens Youth Clipper 282 and Zenith 282 jackets are being recalled because the hood drawstring can catch on objects and strangle a child.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: Scored 3 under the risk-of-harm criterion: a hood drawstring poses a strangulation hazard to children, and the notice states no incidents have been reported.

Plain-English summary

The Grundens Youth Clipper 282 Jacket and Youth Zenith 282 Jacket, sold in youth sizes 8 to 12, are being recalled. Both have a drawstring in the hood and "Grundens" printed on the left chest, with a black interior label showing the brand and country of origin. The Clipper was sold in orange.

A drawstring in the hood presents a substantial product hazard because it can get caught on objects and cause death or serious injury to children by strangulation. The CPSC notice states that no injuries or incidents have been reported.

About 8,850 units were sold, with about 730 more in Canada, at Bass Pro Shops and other outdoor stores nationwide and on Grundens.com from August 2015 through August 2025 for between $55 and $120.

Consumers should immediately take the jackets away from children and remove the drawstrings. They can return the jacket to Grundens for a full refund, or upload a photo of the jacket with the drawstring removed to receive a 20% discount code.
