What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a high-risk pathogen (bacteria and fungi capable of serious infection) without any reported illnesses or injuries. According to the severity rubric, high-risk pathogens without reported illness fall into the "High" (score 3) category. The source explicitly states that no illness in consumers or pets has been reported.
Plain-English summary
Bausch + Lomb Americas Inc. is recalling approximately 32,000 units of Project Watson Eyelid Wipes for Dogs (45 count) sold from February 2023 through March 2024. The recalled product comes in a small round container with a twist-on lid and blue and white labeling. One of two recalled lot numbers—A09050 or A10055—is printed on the bottom of the container.
When the wipes are opened and in use, bacteria and fungi found widely in the environment, soil, and water can be introduced and grow inside the container. This poses a risk of serious infection to people with weakened immune systems and to individuals with wounds. People with healthy immune systems are not typically affected. The company has received seven reports of a substance developing in the container after opening; however, no illness in consumers or pets has been reported.
The wipes were sold at PetSmart, Walmart, and other stores nationwide, as well as online at Chewy.com and Amazon.com, for between $13 and $15. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled wipes and request a full refund by submitting a picture of the product via an online form at http://eyelidwiperecall.com/. The refund will be sent by check via U.S. mail. After requesting the refund, consumers should dispose of the product in its container with household trash. For more information, contact Project Watson toll-free at 877-857-1149 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit http://eyelidwiperecall.com/ or www.tryprojectwatson.com/ and click on "Recall Notice" at the bottom of the page.
