The recalled stems have a dual-tone gray stripe design with laser-etching at approximately a 45-degree angle on the stem body's sides. "Boxone" and the Box icon are also laser-etched on the stems. The stems were sold in various colors including black, red, blue, gold, purple, and silver, and featured 6 mm diameter bolts that are 20 mm in length.

The faceplate on these stems can crack and break, which loosens the handlebars and causes the rider to lose control, posing a risk of injury in a crash. The firm has received one report of a stem faceplate cracking, but no injuries have been reported.

The stems were sold separately (not as part of bicycles) through BMX Race dealers nationwide and online at boxcomponents.com from January 2023 through October 2023 for approximately $100 each.
