What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This is a risk-of-harm product (safety helmet with structural defect preventing protection in crash) where injury has not yet been reported, which aligns with a High (3) severity per the rubric. The defect directly threatens head safety in the event of a crash.
Plain-English summary
Messingschlager USA LLC, doing business as Cycle Force of Ames, Iowa, is recalling about 1,750 Ventura Safety Adult Bike Helmets in size Medium. The helmets have model numbers 731434, 731436, 733192, or 733194, and were manufactured between October 2017 and January 2023. They were sold in white carbon, neon yellow, and white/pink and white/orange color combinations.
The recalled helmets do not comply with the positional stability requirement of the CPSC federal safety standard for bicycle helmets. Because of this defect, the helmets can fail to protect in the event of a crash, posing a risk of head injury. No injuries have been reported.
The helmets were sold nationwide and online through Home Depot, JCPenney, Kohl's, Play It Again Sports, independent sports and bicycle stores, and online retailers including InGearOutfitters.com, Walmart.com, and Amazon.com from October 2017 through January 2023 for about $40.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled helmets and contact Cycle Force for a full refund. To receive a refund, consumers must destroy the helmet by cutting off the straps, complete the form at www.bikeaidonline.com/recall-ventura-sport-helmet, email photos of the helmet with the straps cut off to [email protected] to prove destruction, and dispose of the recalled helmet. For more information, consumers can call Cycle Force toll-free at 877-245-3243 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, email [email protected], or visit www.bikeaidonline.com/recall-ventura-sport-helmet or www.bikeaidonline.com and click on "RECALLS" at the top of the page.
