Children's Covered Wood Wagons Recalled for Excessive Lead Paint
Colony Brands is recalling about 20 covered wood wagons sold through Montgomery Ward's and Ginny's from September to October 2021 because paint on the wood, plastic handles, and red plastic cover contains excessive lead that can be toxic if ingested by young children.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: Lead paint on children's products is a high-risk hazard due to the known potential for serious health effects from ingestion, particularly in young children. Although no illnesses have been reported, the hazard is significant enough to warrant a recall, and the violation of federal lead paint standards places this above moderate severity.
Plain-English summary
Colony Brands Inc. is recalling children's covered wood-sided wagons with a red and white metal frame, black handle grips and wheels, measuring 34 inches high by 23 inches wide by 22 inches high (40 inches with cover). The wagons have a 150-pound capacity and come with a red plastic covering. Lot number 210503SSM is printed on the bottom of the wagon.
The paint on the wood wagons, plastic handles, and red plastic cover contains levels of lead that exceed the maximums allowed by federal law. Excessive levels of lead can be toxic or cause other health problems to young children if the paint is ingested.
About 20 wagons were sold through Montgomery Ward's and Ginny's catalogs and online at Wards.com and Ginnys.com from September 2021 through October 2021 for about $100. No injuries have been reported.
Consumers should immediately take the recalled wagons away from children and return them for a full refund. The involved retailers are contacting all known purchasers to arrange returns and providing pre-paid shipping labels and return instructions. Consumers can contact Colony Brands at 800-991-4442 between 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. CT, Monday through Friday, or email [email protected], or contact the applicable seller at [email protected] or [email protected].
