Brompton Electric Folding Bicycles Recalled for Crash and Injury Hazards

The recall was issued because the mudguard is positioned too close to the front wheel. If an object becomes caught between the mudguard and the front tire, the wheel can lock up, causing sudden deceleration of the bike and posing crash and injury hazards to the rider.

Brompton has received 10 reports of faulty mudguards causing bikes to crash, resulting in nine reports of injuries including head and facial impact, broken bones, shoulder dislocation, bruising, and chipped teeth. Two of these incidents resulted in hospitalizations.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bicycles and contact an authorized Brompton dealer for a free repair. The repair replaces the front mudguard stay and flap and increases the clearance between the mudguard and tire.
