Hodedah is recalling HI4DR 4-drawer chests because they may tip over or entrap children if not anchored to the wall.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (tip-over/entrapment) where injury has not yet been reported, which aligns with the High severity criteria in the rubric.

Plain-English summary

Hodedah Import Inc. is recalling approximately 26,500 HI4DR 4-drawer chests due to tip-over and entrapment hazards. The recalled chests are unstable if not anchored to the wall, which poses a risk of death or serious injury to children. The products do not comply with the performance requirements of the U.S. voluntary industry standard ASTM 2057-19.

The chests were sold in beech, mahogany, chocolate, cherry, white, and black colors. They measure approximately 40 inches tall, 27.5 inches wide, and 15.5 inches deep and weigh about 84 pounds. The products were manufactured in Malaysia and sold online through various retailers, including Wayfair, Home Depot, Walmart, and Amazon, from July 2017 through April 2020 for between $90 and $200.

No injuries have been reported. Consumers should immediately stop using any recalled chest that is not properly anchored to the wall and place it in an area that children cannot access. Hodedah will provide free anti-tip anchoring kits or packaging and pre-paid shipping labels so consumers can remove the chest's drawer slides and return them for a full refund and discard the rest of the dresser. Remedies may be delayed due to COVID-19 restrictions.
