What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (fuel tank neck cracking) and significant property damage reports (four fires), which aligns with the rubric criteria for a Severe (4) rating.
Plain-English summary
Polaris Industries Inc. is recalling approximately 16,800 model year 2015 through 2017 RZR 170 recreational off-highway vehicles (ROVs). These two-seat vehicles were manufactured by Aeon Motors Ltd. of Taiwan and sold in red, blue, and white. The vehicles were sold at Polaris dealers nationwide from February 2015 through July 2017 for between $4,600 and $4,800.
The recall is due to a defect where the fuel tank neck can crack or the wiring harness can overheat or short circuit. These issues pose fuel leak and fire hazards. Polaris has received 102 reports of cracked fuel tank necks and 28 reports of burning, smoking, melted, and/or shorted wires, including four reports of fires. No injuries have been reported.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled ROVs and contact Polaris to schedule a free repair. Polaris is contacting all known purchasers directly.
