Plain-English summary
Franklin Corporation is recalling approximately 81,000 units of power reclining furniture sold in the United States. The recall involves reclining chairs, sofas, and sectionals equipped with specific rectangular black plastic power switches. These units were sold under the Franklin Corporation name or eight private labels, including Big Sandy Superstore, Cardi's Furniture, and Overstock.com, between October 2013 and December 2014 for prices ranging from $400 to $4,000.
The recall is due to a fire hazard. The power switch used to operate the reclining function can overheat. Franklin has received two reports of switches igniting and three reports of switches smoking on showroom samples, which resulted in minor property damage to flooring. No injuries have been reported.
Consumers should immediately unplug the recalled units and contact Franklin Corporation for a replacement operating switch. Franklin can be reached toll-free at (866) 551-2706 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or online at Franklincorp.com by clicking the "Power Switch Recall" button.
