The recall involves units manufactured between October 2009 and April 2013 that use American Flame brand main control modules. Approximately 13,600 units were sold in the United States and 2,170 in Canada through fireplace dealers and distributors for prices between $1,450 and $3,325.

The main control module on these units can allow gas to be released and build up in the burner area, posing an explosion hazard. Hussong Manufacturing has received reports of nine incidents where gas was released prematurely and exploded, resulting in minor property damage and two reports of abrasions.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled fireplaces and fireplace inserts and turn off the gas to the units. They should contact the dealer where the unit was purchased or Hussong Manufacturing to have the ignition board on the fireplace main control module replaced free of charge. The product name, model number, manufacture date, and serial number are located on a silver testing label attached by a chain next to the gas valve.
