Snoopy Sno-Cone Machines Recalled Due to Risk of Mouth Injury

LaRose Industries is recalling Snoopy Sno-Cone Machines because a brass rivet can fall into the ice shavings, posing a risk of injury to the mouth or teeth.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (ingestible foreign object) where injury has not yet been reported, which aligns with the 'High' severity criteria for products posing a risk of harm without reported injuries.

Plain-English summary

LaRose Industries LLC is recalling Cra-Z-Art Snoopy Sno-Cone Machines due to a risk of mouth or tooth injury. The recall involves approximately 102,000 units sold at Barnes and Noble, Target, and Toys R Us stores nationwide, as well as online at Amazon.com, from September 2012 through July 2013 for about $15. The machines are white plastic doghouses with a red roof and red shovel, featuring images of Snoopy, Charlie Brown, Lucy, and a snowman.

The hazard exists because a brass rivet can fall out of the ice-shaving cylinder and into the sno-cone. LaRose Industries has received 64 reports of brass rivets falling out of the cylinder, but no injuries have been reported. The recalled machines have one of three specific batch numbers printed on the back of the doghouse and on the side of the box: BCH003005A28-0812, BCHTRU001A17-0812, or BCHTRU004A16-0712.

Consumers should stop using the recalled sno-cone machines immediately and contact LaRose Industries for a free repair kit, which includes a new ice-shaving cylinder. The company can be reached toll-free at (855) 345-4693 between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, via email at [email protected], or online at www.laroseindustries.com. Consumers should not return the machines to the store where they were purchased.
