The recall is prompted by a report of the November 2007 death of an 8-year-old boy in Port Arthur, Texas. The child reportedly chewed on a soft, pliable orange plastic dart, inadvertently swallowed it, and the dart became lodged in his throat, blocking his ability to breathe. The hazard description notes that if a child places the dart in their mouth, they are likely to choke or aspirate it, which can lead to brain damage or death if not immediately removed.
