The recall involves approximately 3,000 cribs and 6,000 matching furniture pieces manufactured in Indonesia between April 2006 and November 2008. The red paint located underneath the black finish on some of these items exceeds federal lead limits. If ingested by young children, lead can cause adverse health effects.

The recalled products were sold at specialty furniture stores nationwide from April 2006 through November 2008. Cribs were sold for about $600, and matching furniture pieces were sold between $700 and $1,000. Specific models included in the recall are the 7900 Newport Lifetime Crib, 7918 Hutch, 7915 Mirror, 7908 Combo, 7902 Nightstand, 7907 Conversion Kit, 7905 5-Drawer Dresser, 7929 Armoire, 7975 Guardrail, 7906 Double Dresser, 7914 Bookcase, and 7901 Newport OldeWorld Crib. Model numbers, dates, and country of manufacture are printed on labels attached to the side panel of the crib and the back panel of the furniture.

Munire has received one report of a child ingesting the paint, and the child was diagnosed with lead poisoning. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled cribs and destroy and discard them. Because the firm is no longer in business, a remedy is no longer available.
