Regal Lager Recalls Phil & Teds e3 Strollers Due to Abrasion Hazard
Regal Lager is recalling about 14,300 Phil & Teds e3 strollers with doubles seats because children in the lower add-on seat can touch the rear tires, posing an abrasion hazard.
What this means for you
Minor labeling or packaging issue, or a voluntary precautionary recall. Risk of harm is low but real — follow the manufacturer's instructions.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a minor abrasion hazard with one reported injury (scraped arm), fitting the criteria for moderate severity involving low-risk physical hazards without severe injury or death.
Plain-English summary
Regal Lager Inc. is recalling approximately 14,300 Phil & Teds e3 strollers equipped with doubles seats. The recall involves the e3 Buggy, a three-wheeled stroller with a black steel tubing frame, which can be fitted with an additional "Doubles Kit" seat. This add-on seat allows a second child to ride in the stroller and can be attached either on top of the frame or in a lower position on top of the rear axle.
The hazard exists when the additional seat is used in the lower position on top of the rear axle, as a seated child can reach the rear tires. Regal Lager has received one report of a child who scraped his arm from touching the tire while it was in motion. This poses an abrasion hazard to children.
The strollers were sold at baby furniture and baby products stores nationwide and through Internet retailers from July 2005 through November 2006 for about $380. Consumers should immediately stop using the additional rear seat in the lower position on top of the rear axle and contact Regal Lager for free additional rear wheel guards. For more information, consumers can contact Regal Lager at (800) 593-5522 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, e-mail the firm at [email protected], or visit www.regallager.com.
