Plain-English summary
Four Seasons Solar Products and Cardinal IG Company are recalling approximately 6,000 sunrooms to repair roof glass and skylights. The recall involves reflective Code 77 roof insulating glass units that can reflect sunlight onto adjacent cedar shingles or cedar shakes, creating a fire hazard.
The affected units include new sunrooms sold from 1996 through 2002, as well as any sunrooms that had roof glass or skylights replaced with Code 77 glass between 1996 and 2005. These products were sold through franchisees and Four Seasons retail stores in the United States and Puerto Rico from January 1996 through October 2005. The companies are aware of four fires attributed to this scenario, with damage ranging from minor shingle damage to structural damage to roofs and walls, but no injuries have been reported.
Owners should call the toll-free number at (800) 385-9988 to determine if their units are affected and to arrange a free repair. The repair involves installing a capillary tube to the roof glass, which can be completed from the exterior of the sunroom for most units. There is no need to replace the glass.
