Plain-English summary

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is recalling approximately 10,000 Vapor-Eze Waterless Vaporizers and 5,000 Vapor-Eze Aromatherapy Diffusers. These products were manufactured by Juvenile Products Corp. of Miami, Florida, which is now out of business. The vaporizers are white plastic with vents, while the diffusers are ivory plastic with vents. Both measure 5 inches wide by 3½ inches high and feature specific model numbers (1070, 2070, or 3070) and UPC codes on the packaging or bottom of the unit.

The recall is due to a defective internal heater that can cause sparking and emit flames while in use. This defect creates a risk of fire, burn, and electric shock. There have been 25 reported incidents involving these products, including at least six fires and two reports of burn injuries. In one incident, a young child was hospitalized with burns to the face and hands and smoke inhalation. In another, a consumer suffered a burned foot.

Consumers should stop using the recalled products immediately. The products were sold at discount department and drug stores, including Wal-Mart, from June 2005 through September 2005 for about $20. Consumers who purchased the items at Wal-Mart should contact Wal-Mart at (800) 925-6278 or visit www.Walmart.com for a full refund. Those who purchased the products elsewhere should contact the retailer or the CPSC Hotline at (800) 638-2772.
