Ginger Bathroom Light Fixtures Recalled for Falling Glass Shades
Ginger is recalling Kubic, K2, and Surface bathroom light fixtures because the glass shades can fall and break, posing a cut hazard.
What this means for you
Minor labeling or packaging issue, or a voluntary precautionary recall. Risk of harm is low but real — follow the manufacturer's instructions.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk of injury from falling glass, with one report of a minor cut. This aligns with the 'Moderate' severity criteria for low-risk contamination or minor injury reports, as the hazard is physical and the reported injury was minor.
Plain-English summary
Ginger, of Fort Mill, S.C., is recalling approximately 5,900 Kubic, K2, and Surface bathroom light fixtures. The recalled products feature 8-inch-long, cylindrical, white glass shades that are glued to a metal base rather than secured with screws. The glass shades can separate from the light fixture and fall, posing a risk that a consumer could be cut by the broken glass.
The firm has received one report of a consumer who suffered a minor cut to his foot after stepping on broken glass from a fallen shade. The affected light fixtures were sold through commercial dealers and select showrooms and retailers nationwide from August 2003 through September 2004 for between $240 and $355.
Consumers should contact Ginger toll-free at (800) 842-4872 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit the company's website at www.gingerco.com, to receive free replacement shades.
