Dorel Recalls 1.2 Million Cosco Infant Car Seats Due to Handle Defect

The affected units were manufactured in the United States and sold nationwide between September 10, 1997, and December 2000, for prices ranging from $30 to $140 depending on the configuration.
The hazard involves the plastic handle locks on the carrier portion of the seat. When used as a carrier, these locks can unexpectedly break or release from the carrying position, causing the seat to unlatch or flip forward. This failure can result in an infant falling to the ground. Dorel has received 416 reports of the handle locks breaking or unlatching, which resulted in nine injuries to children, including bruises and scratches to the head and face.
Consumers should stop using the Arriva and Turnabout as a carrier immediately but may continue to use them as car seats.
