Homier Distributing Co. Inc. is recalling approximately 384,000 HDC brand extension cords, portable lights, and fluorescent work lights. The recalled products include 50-foot and 100-foot outdoor extension cords, Handyman's Trouble Lights, and 16-inch AC/DC Fluorescent Work Lights. These items were sold nationwide through traveling sales shows, two retail stores in Indiana, and online from January 2000 through May 2003 for between $3 and $7.
The recall is due to multiple safety defects, including undersized wiring, improper polarization, inadequate grounding, and faulty electrical connections. Some products also feature plastic handles that continue to burn and spread flames once ignited. These defects pose hazards of shock, electrocution, and fire to consumers. The company has received one report of an individual sustaining an electric shock and burn injury while using a fluorescent work light.
Consumers should stop using the affected products immediately.
