Plain-English summary
Club Car, Inc. is recalling approximately 7,300 Club Car DS Golf Cars and Utility Vehicles. The recall was initiated because the fuel tank may leak, which poses a potential fire hazard. The affected vehicles have serial numbers ranging from 0229-169750 through 0236-197543, located on a decal just above and to the right of the accelerator pedal.
The vehicles were sold through authorized Club Car dealers nationwide from February 2002 through April 2002 for prices between $4,000 and $9,000. Club Car and the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) first announced a recall and inspection program on May 7, 2002, following two reports of leaking fuel tanks. Since that initial announcement, Club Car has received eight additional reports of leaking fuel tanks. No injuries or property damage have been reported.
Consumers should stop using the recalled vehicles immediately and inspect the tank and storage areas for any signs of leakage before use. If signs of leakage are present, consumers should discontinue use of the vehicle and contact the nearest Club Car dealer immediately. Club Car will replace the fuel tank free of charge. The company has notified consumers directly to schedule the tank replacement. For more information, consumers can contact Club Car at (877) 252-7682 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday.
