The recall was issued because a child's finger can become stuck inside spaces between parts of the hinges when one of the front doors is open. This can cause finger crushing or pinching injuries while the door is closing.

The recalled tables measure 42 inches long by 26 3/4 inches wide by 36 inches high and feature three front doors, sliding toddler steps, storage drawers, and a quilted vinyl pad on top. The units were manufactured prior to December 1, 2000, and sold to daycare centers and pre-schools from January 1998 to May 2001 for about $700 each.

Childcraft Education Corp. has received two reports of children having their fingers caught inside the hinges. One child required stitches and the other needed surgery. Consumers should stop using these changing tables immediately and contact Childcraft Education Corp. to receive a free repair kit. Purchasers were sent direct mail notification of this recall.
