The recall is due to a hazard where pieces of the wick can fall off while the candle is burning. CPSC and the manufacturer have received one report of a fire that caused minor property and smoke damage, but no injuries have been reported.

These candles were sold exclusively by Island Soap & Candle Works in Oahu, Maui, and Kauai, Hawaii, and in Monterey, California, from April 2000 through April 8, 2002. The price range was between $8 and $15. Consumers should stop using the candles immediately and return them to the store of purchase for a full refund, or mail them to the firm at 900 Fort Street Mall, Suite #1220, Honolulu, HI 96813.
