Plain-English summary

Zebco, a division of Brunswick Corp., is recalling approximately 9,600 American Camper® Compact Butane Stoves. The recalled stoves are single-burner units with a yellow base and black burner plate, featuring model numbers 2140BF or 2140BFW on the packaging. These products were sold at sporting goods, camping supply, and mass merchandise stores nationwide from May 1999 through July 2000 for between $15 and $25.

The recall was initiated because the stoves could have been shipped with butane already in the fuel compartment, creating a fire and burn hazard. Additionally, a potential issue with the fuel control mechanism may cause the stoves to flare up or catch fire during operation. Zebco has received one report of butane being shipped in the fuel compartment, but there have been no reports of injuries.

Consumers should stop using these stoves immediately. To arrange for a pickup and receive a $25 refund, consumers should call Zebco at (800) 558-9876 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. CT, Monday through Friday.
